Manitoba United - Who Are We?

We offer a place to meet persons interested in forming stronger opposition to the Manitoba NDP regime currently in Government. This blog is the first step towards a robust and vibrant community which we must build together for the sake of our Province. Look here first for Manitoba United announcements and news.

Manitoba United is a grass-roots movement aiming to replace the Manitoba NDP regime with a better party, and much better governance, built upon the cooperative efforts of all who oppose the regime.

Manitoba United is not affiliated with any Federal Party, nor are we a top-down controlled organization headed by any current or former party elites. We are you, Manitobans for Manitoba. As such, Manitoba United is ready, willing, and able to craft policy and mechanisms for true Manitoban grass roots growth and guidance.

All persons supportive of a provincial political platform for and about Manitobans should follow this Blog.

  1. This might be a good spot to point out the concept of "crowd sourced" which is just below the Manitoba United header. Similar to Wikipedia which is built by its contributors, Manitoba United has a lot of faith in the smartness of the public. This site attempts, for the first time, to create public policy by public input. Although it is a work in progress and some better ideas may come along, the basic process is thought to be roughly as follows:

    1) that a general concept goes out as a blog post

    2) based on the discussion that formed the general concept, at around the same time, a comment is added which shows some aspects of what that general idea might mean from a practical perspective. (note that many of the start up comments were mine and were created before the blog was unveiled so that others could get a decent start once opened up)

    3) a moderator, (not me) starts to watch that general idea and how others react or comment

    4) the moderator may step in to move comments to other pages of the blog if not on topic or to try and probe a bit into a poster's point if it is novel or unclear. The moderator may also challenge a poster if the idea presented directly contradicts some other element of policy presented on other pages.

    5) at some future point, a synopsis of the comments is prepared and approved or disapproved for inclusion by both on line polls and/or a policy workshop/conference

    6) a more concise and more formal policy is written

    7) that policy, with some limited exceptions, generally becomes binding on the group unless revoked by the group or circumstances, which gave rise to the policy in the first place, experience some type of dramatic change

    8) hopefully, we all take a bow for how well it worked

As a last note on this topic, the group could use some additional volunteer moderators. As well, we would be open to any trial balloon new topic which has no existing coverage. Ideally the kind of individual which would be best for this job would be someone who could fairmindedly devote a half hour every second night to look at the postings and work with that particular posting community to encourage discussion. Typically that person would have some inherent interest or expertise in the topic chosen and perhaps may have some later political ambitions in that field.
